8 Types of Classifiers

0.3 CEUs, PS

How do you expand your vocabulary without learning new words!? Impossible, right? Not if you know this secret! One of the best tools to have in sign language is a good catalogue of classifiers. There are eight basic categories of classifiers and in this workshop we’re going to explore how to use them to our advantage. One of the benefits to fully understanding the concept and usage of classifiers is that you literally can’t be stuck without the “words” to express your meaning. All you need is to know is which type of classifier to use in which situation and you can always convey your ideas clearly, without fingerspelling or asking “what’s the sign for…?” In this workshop, I guarantee you’ll leave with a lot more to say than when you came in!

Meet Your Presenter

Deaf Instructor

Anirban Dasgupta

I was born profoundly deaf. My world is completely visual. I have spent a lot of time in the US. My brother, who is also deaf, lives there and my wife is American. I have been asked to deliver speeches and lectures in the ASL community as often as I have visited the US. This has granted me the privilege of having a rich experience in Deaf Language. You could say ASL is the language of my heart since it is my means of communication with all my closest loved ones.
