CASLI / NIC Ethics in Action: What Would You Do?

0.2 CEUs, PS

Interpreter, what would you do? The updated certification process through Center for the Assessment of Sign Language Interpretation emphasizes a practice-based approach that examines the ethical decisions interpreters make throughout the entire interpreting process. From receiving and accepting an assignment, to navigating challenges during the interaction itself, to handling follow-up responsibilities after the assignment, interpreters are continually making complex professional and ethical choices. This interactive workshop explores the ethical decision-making process interpreters engage in across all aspects of their work. Through small-group activities and guided whole-group discussions, participants will examine realistic scenarios, identify possible courses of action, and critically reflect on how those choices align with the Code of Professional Conduct. Participants will strengthen their ability to analyze ethical dilemmas, apply professional standards to real-world situations, and develop greater confidence in making thoughtful, ethical decisions in their interpreting practice.
