CASLI / NIC: Turning Deliberate Practice into Performance

0.2 CEUs, PS

Many interpreters approach their first certification exam unsure of what to expect or how to effectively prepare. When it comes to performance-based exams, intentional and focused preparation matters—and deliberate practice is one of the most effective tools for building stronger interpreting skills and increasing confidence. This workshop takes the principles of deliberate practice and explores practical ways to incorporate these strategies into everyday interpreting work. Participants will analyze their own interpreting performance, identify skill gaps, and learn how to apply targeted techniques to support meaningful and measurable growth. Through guided activities and reflection, attendees will begin developing individualized practice plans tailored to their own professional goals and areas for improvement. Whether preparing for a certification exam or seeking to strengthen day-to-day interpreting performance, participants will leave with actionable tools and strategies to continue growing as reflective practitioners. After all, interpreting is a practice profession—so let’s practice deliberately together!
