Passive Voice

0.25 CEUs, PS

If you heard the sentence: “I was fired.” or “My son was bitten by another child.” and you’re not cognizant of passive voice constructions inherent in those sentences, you should come to this workshop. These oversights are more than likely affecting your interpretations, as well! The goal of this presentation is to make participants aware of passive voice and its usages in English. Passive voice is used for very specific purposes in English. These purposes coupled with American phone culture make for a sticky situation for interpreters. This workshop will teach participants about passive voice, and ways to interpret messages into passive and active voice.

Daniel did an excellent job keeping everyone engaged and learning. He was enthusiastic and his high energy made a virtual workshop very enjoyable. The practice material was excellent and helpful in analyzing passive voice.

I’ve wanted a workshop on Passive Voice for decades. Yes, decades!! I’m thrilled that I experienced it AND that I had a great instructor. He was prepared with extra practice materials if needed. He was very encouraging, not just in a cheerleader way. He knew what the common experiences were for students and explained how it was common and why. THEN he encouraged us to work through the materials. I’ll be keeping an eye out for more workshops from him!

Thank you for a wonderful workshop! What a great way to work on something so specific. I appreciated the examples and dialog with colleagues. This was done well considering the virtual platform. The pre-test vs. post test helped tremendously to look closer at my work and see what I did and what I could work on. Thanks again!
