“Say What?!”: Medical Interpreting Without the Misdiagnosis

0.3 CEUs, PS

Dr. Featherstone, a Deaf board-certified pediatrician with 10+ years of experience in medicine, will share medical cases he personally experienced and will incorporate a wealth of ASL-related medical information/knowledge directly related to interpreting. He presented a similar workshop last year, but will use different cases and more importantly, he will also provide ample interactions and scenarios where attendees will have the opportunity to interpret different medical cases during the workshop.

This was my first time attending one of Dr. Featherstone’s presentations and wow, fantastic! I learned so much. I really appreciated how he explained the way he trains interpreters to work with him in so many different scenarios. There’s so much more to the dynamic than just interpreting the usual way. That said, the principles he shared can definitely be applied in other settings too. There was so much great info, it was honestly hard to catch it all while taking notes!

Excellent presentation! Very important topic for anyone to have more awareness abI really appreciated that he got straight to the content and gave us exactly what we were looking for. A lot of workshops sound like they’ll provide useful signs and clear info, but end up being more generic or filled with “it depends” answers so you leave feeling a little let down. This one was different. We were able to ask real questions and actually get direct, helpful answers. That was really refreshing.out. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and personal experience.

Best workshop so far! The conversation, the signs provided, the descriptions of what was going on in the different parts of a doctors appointment, hospital visit, surgery/procedure were exactly what I needed.
