The Certificate in Educational Interpreting (CEI)

0.3 CEUs, PS

Remember in English grammar class in high school how your teacher would always scold you for using “run-on” sentences? Like when you would tie a couple of expressions together using nothing but the word “and…and…and…” Do you ever feel like your sign language faces the same issue? It can be difficult to transition naturally from one idea to another. Or to show how two thoughts are connected to each other. Transitional markers are an integral part of natural sign language grammar, but are often overlooked or just substituted by signs that don’t really highlight the relationship between thoughts. I want to show you how to use non-manual transitional markers in your facial expressions and body movements to help you break the bad habit of “run-on sentences” for good!

Deaf Instructor

Anirban Dasgupta

I was born profoundly deaf. My world is completely visual. I have spent a lot of time in the US. My brother, who is also deaf, lives there and my wife is American. I have been asked to deliver speeches and lectures in the ASL community as often as I have visited the US. This has granted me the privilege of having a rich experience in Deaf Language. You could say ASL is the language of my heart since it is my means of communication with all my closest loved ones.
