Over the last couple of years, no doubt you have heard the phrase, “I’m doing my own research.” Now, that may mean something rather controversial when it comes to the coronavirus vaccine. But, when it comes to the interpreting profession, the phrase “I’m doing my own research” is something to be celebrated! That is, the most applicable research questions are driven by interpreting practice and by interpreters themselves!
With the growth of graduate degree programs for interpreters, more practitioners are trying their hand at research and we are proud to share four new research projects with TerpAcademy Summit participants. The Masters in Health Care Interpretation (MSHCI) program at The National Technical Institute for the Deaf is proud to be partnering with TerpAcademy to bring you this inaugural event!
MSHCI faculty and recent graduates will introduce four, brand new, research studies on the following topics:
• Interpreting in forensic settings (Juliana Apfel)
• Deaf professional-designated interpreter and personalities measure (Emily Aquino)
• Providers’ perceptions of working with Deaf interpreter/hearing interpreter teams (Julayne Feilbach)
• BIPOC Interpreters and resiliency (Todd Thieu)
