Interpreting for In Vitro Fertilization Settings

This is a subject many interpreters find challenging! Why? Many people find infertility to be an embarrassing, uncomfortable subject and are and not sure what to do when facing infertility. In this workshop I will be sharing my own personal experience and the research I have done about infertility and In Vitro Fertilization (IVF). We will also meet some Deaf individuals that have faced similar challenges and discuss the stigmas and emotions surrounding infertility. In so doing, we will be learning a lot of terminology surrounding this subject, but also how to interpret these situations in a way that is effective while at the same time respectful and appropriate.

Emilia Lorenti-Wann

As a New York-native with Uruguayan roots, Emilia began learning sign language at the age of 17. She’s been nationally certified for over 30 years and specializes in working as a trilingual interpreter. As founders and coordinators of their own VRS company, Emilia and her husband Keith have enjoyed serving members of the Deaf community across the country. Emilia’s extensive experience across almost every interpreting setting you could imagine equips her to teach workshops on another level.
